Nonostante l’infortunio di Hernandez e le assenze di Klose e Zimmermann, il Norwich deve iniziare bene il campionato oggi col Newcastle.

    BBC STATS AND PREVIEWS

    TEAM NEWS

Norwich winger Onel Hernandez has been ruled out for three months after injuring his knee in a fall, while Josip Drmic, Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann are also absent.

Kenny McLean is a major doubt but Alex Tettey, Ibrahim Amadou and Mario Vrancic are all available.

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is fit but Allan Saint-Maximin is a doubt because of a hamstring strain.

Andy Carroll remains sidelined, as do Florian Lejeune and DeAndre Yedlin.

Ex-Norwich forward van Wolfswinkel has brain aneurysm
    MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@ConorMcNamaraIE: Despite boycott threats, almost all the seats at St James' Park were occupied last weekend.

As a taxi driver said to me on Tyneside: "They'll always support the club - even if they sent out 11 wild animals wearing black and white."

Cue Norwich wry smiles at Newcastle's supposed lack of ambition. For now, the Canaries can only dream of spending £40m on a Brazilian forward. No Premier League club spent less this summer than Norwich.

If the opening night at Anfield was something of a write-off, Norwich will see this as their real kick-start to life back in the top flight.

    VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke: "We are the underdog in most games because of the possibilities of the opponents.

"Newcastle are a big club. They have top-class players and have strengthened in the summer. We have to be at our best level."

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce: "Norwich won't be easy. Like every promoted team, everybody is excited and they haven't been here for a few years. Last season, Norwich ran away with it in the Championship. We know what they are about.

"We will have to defend well. When we are at the top end of the pitch can we exploit them? I have always tried to have a winning mentality. We have to have the belief to go there and get a result."

    LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Norwich are dangerous but I do worry about them - they scored lots of goals in the Championship last season, but they conceded a load too.

If they are going to be as open as they were at Anfield when they play at home as well, then they are going to get some beatings.

    Prediction: 1-2

Steve Bruce has lost all three PL away matches versus Norwich
    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

Norwich have won just one of the last nine meetings (D3, L5).
However, they are on a six-match unbeaten Premier League home run against the Magpies.
The only away win in 14 Premier League matches between the sides was Newcastle's 2-1 victory at Carrow Road in January 1994.
The last four encounters have produced 24 goals - an average of six per game.
    Norwich City

Defeat in their season opener ended Norwich's 14-match unbeaten run (W10, D4).
Norwich could begin a league season with consecutive losses for the first time since 1997-98.
They are without a Premier League clean sheet in eight matches, conceding 17 goals in the process.
None of the last seven managers to take charge of the Canaries in the Premier League have won their opening home match in charge.
Tim Krul kept 41 clean sheets in 157 Premier League appearances for Newcastle between 2010 and 2015.
    Newcastle United

Newcastle are unbeaten in three away league games (W2, D1).
They are looking to secure back-to-back away league victories for the first time since January 2018.
The Magpies have won their opening away league match of the season just twice in 21 campaigns (D8, L11),
Newcastle have won just two of their last 28 Premier League away games in the month of August (D10, L16).
Steve Bruce made 180 appearances for Norwich and scored 21 goals between 1984 and 1987.

    TEAM NEWS

Javier Hernandez is fit again after missing West Ham's last two games with a knee injury.

Michail Antonio is being assessed after coming off against Newport County in the EFL Cup in midweek with a hamstring problem.

Norwich will be without Timm Klose, who may need knee surgery, while Grant Hanley has a groin strain.

But Christoph Zimmerman has shaken off a hip problem and Josip Drmic has recovered from a hamstring injury.

Hidden letter hints at ex-Norwich manager's England role
    MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@Mark_Scott_: West Ham have picked up more points from their opening three games than in any of the previous five seasons, and despite scoring twice in their win at Watford, club-record signing Sebastien Haller wasn't happy with his performance.

Another striker with high standards is Teemu Pukki, who is already only two goals away from the total that Norwich's top scorer managed in their last Premier League campaign.

Both of the Canaries' defeats this season have come against teams that finished in the top four last term, but while losing to Liverpool and Chelsea isn't cause for concern, the number of goals they've conceded might be.

    VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini: "I expect a similar game to the one we played against Watford. Norwich play this system and they played exactly the same way against Chelsea and Liverpool.

"They are a very good team and we will need to play a very good game to get the three points."

Norwich head coach Daniel Farke: "West Ham did well last season and did good work in the transfer market. We know we face a top-class side with lots of options in the offence. The transfer of [Sebastien] Haller shows ambitions and we have to respect them.

"I'm full of respect for [Manuel] Pellegrini. He's worked with some huge clubs and won lots of trophies. He knows how to lead ambitious clubs."

    LAWRO'S PREDICTION

My great worry about Norwich is defensively, they have conceded eight goals. You get so heavily punished in this league.

    Prediction: 2-0

Lawro's full predictions v actor and comedian Stephen Fry

Norwich have not any of their last 19 Premier League matches in London
    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

Both the last two meetings between these sides - which came in the 2015-16 season - ended in 2-2 draws.
Norwich have failed to win on their last seven league visits to West Ham (D4, L3).
They have won just one of their last 11 matches against West Ham in all competitions (D6, L4).
    West Ham

West Ham are looking for a third win in a week, after beating Watford in the league last weekend and Newport County in the EFL Cup in midweek.
But they are in danger of losing their first two home matches of the Premier League season for the second year in a row.
The Hammers are yet to keep a clean sheet in this season's Premier League.
They've lost seven of their last eight Premier League home games in August, winning just one.
    Norwich

Norwich have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
The Canaries have lost 14 of their last 16 Premier League away games, failing to score in 10 of those defeats.
Teemu Pukki has scored five of Norwich's six goals, having had 12 of their 33 shots.
Pukki, who has scored in each of his first three Premier League games, could become just the third player to score in his opening four appearances in the competition. The previous two are Diego Costa and Mick Quinn.
Since the start of last season, Norwich's league matches have seen a total of 164 goals scored (99 for, 65 against), more than any other side in the top four tiers of English football in this time (excluding play-offs).

Dopo la brutta sconfitta con gli Hammers, quando ormai affioravano i primi mugugni ecco questa incredibile vittoria col City nonistante la lunghissima lista degli infortuni. Dopo il gol all’Italia Pukki ancora protagonista.

    Commento sul sito ufficiale:

An outstanding performance from the Canaries saw City beat Premier League champions 3-2 in a wonderful game at Carrow Road.

Kenny McLean opened the scoring for City from a corner after 18 minutes and Todd Cantwell doubled Norwich's lead with a brilliantly-worked move 10 minutes later. Sergio Ageuro pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time but Teemu Pukki restored the Canaries' two goal cushion shortly after the break after a huge mix-up in the visitors' defence. Rodrigo fired in from distance from 88 minutes to set up a franatic last five minutes but Norwich held firm to pick up a stunning second win of the season.

Daniel Farke reacted to his sobering injury list by making four changes to City’s last Premier League outing at the London Stadium. Ibrahim Amadou made his first league start for the Canaries, playing at centre-back alongside Ben Godfrey, who had shaken off a groin strain picked up on England U21 duty. Sam Byram was awarded his first Premier League start since March 2018 at the expense of the injured Max Aarons, who suffered ankle problems making a goal-saving tackle for England Under-21. In the middle of the park, Alex Tettey – named as captain – was brought in for his first start of the season (and his 73rd Premier League appearance) alongside Kenny McLean, replacing the injured Tom Trybull and Moritz Leitner. Mario Vrancic had also been ruled out with injury.

Farke was forced to name two goalkeepers on the bench. Among the seven was Adam Idah, who took his place on the bench for the first time, and a returning Grant Hanley.

Pep Guardiola reacted to Aymeric Laporte’s long-term injury by bringing in John Stones into the hear of defence. Elsewhere, Kevin de Bryune was rotated to the bench, but Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero all started.

Manchester City, in a 4-3-3, forced an early corner that tall midfielder Rodrigo looped straight at Tim Krul.

The first 10 minutes saw the visitors see plenty of the ball, as expected, with Norwich looking to attack quickly towards the River End. Marco Stiepermann showed a sudden burst of pace on hallway to skip away from two men and slide Teemu Pukki through, but the Finn couldn’t gather.

Norwich started playing with more confidence and moved the ball around well, with Emi Buendia and Stiepermann causing problems. On 18 minutes a slick move from left to right resulted in a Tettey cross being deflected behind for a corner.

Buendia’s delivery was pinpoint to the near post and McLean crashed home a header into the top corner to put City 1-0 up against the champions.

The visitors hit back strongly, but Norwich’s were defending their box well. Sterling chanced his arm with a curling effort that went well wide, before he picked out Aguero at the back post but he headed a tricky chance over the bar.

Aguero was made to pay a minute later when Cantwell doubled City’s lead. Buendia showed outrageous ability to flick the ball over his man before setting Stiepermann away. He slid through Pukki, who showed great pace to get ahead of Nicolas Otamendi before unselfishly squaring it to Cantwell, who rolled the ball home.

Two minutes later City’s lead was almost halved when Sterling, left unmarked, headed a good chance against the post.

On 35 minutes, City were adamant they should have had a penalty when Stones handballed from a corner. However he had very little time to react from a deflection, and it was deemed accidental.

Manchester City were camped around Norwich’s box for the final 10 minutes, and although they weren’t creating chances, Aguero took advantage of their one clear-cut opening on the stroke of half-time. Ilkay Gundogan swung in a cross from the left and Aguero found space between Godfrey and Amadou to head past Krul, who had no chance.

A minute later referee Kevin Friend blew for the end of a frantic first-half.

Manchester City started the second half on the front foot but it was Norwich who had the first chance, on 49 minutes. Pukki closed sown Otamendi on halfway and the ball rebounded to Stiepermann who played a first-time pass back to Pukki. He raced through on the left but sent his shot wide of Ederson’s far post.

The visitors’ backline didn’t learn from that however, and a minute later Otamendi was dawdling on the ball in his own area from a goalkick. Buendia sensed the opportunity, robbed him on the blindside and rolled the ball across the area for Pukki to stab high into the net to send the Norwich fans wild.

On 59 minutes Guardiola rolled the dice with a double substitution. De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus entered the fray, replacing David Silva and Gundogan. It seemed to make an immediate difference, as Manchester City camped in Norwich’s half. But the Canaries here holding form as De Bruyne whipped in first-time cross after first-time cross. One of his corners on 68 minutes found the head of Otamendi but he headed straight at Krul.

As City looked to have weathered a 15-minute storm, Guardiola made his final substitution, bringing on Riyad Mahrez for Silva.

With Norwich seeing more possession, Manchester City hit the hosts on the break and almost pulled one back with 12 minutes to go. Sterling chipped a cross into the middle from the left, and Aguero looped his header over the bar when he should have done better.

With eight minutes remaining Norwich made their first chance, with Josip Drmic replacing the outstanding Buendia.

Just two minutes remained when Rodrigo struck a sweet drive into the bottom corner from 20 minutes to set up a nervy last five minutes. The Premier League champions threw everything forward, but Krul made three good saves from shots straight at him and City held firm to pull off a brilliant victory.

Forse inebriati dalla incredibile vittoria col City i canaries stanno perdendo 2-0 a Burnley dopo il primo tempo....

    MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

Ben Andrews: Norwich can expect extra attention this weekend, and not just from their hosts Burnley. Planet Football will be fascinated to see how the Canaries follow up the standout result of the Premier League season so far.

Having stolen a point in stoppage time at Brighton, Burnley must now relocate home comforts, and quickly.

Their sole victory this term came on day one at home to Southampton. Since then, both Liverpool and Sunderland have come to Turf Moor, scored three times and won.

Teemu Pukki has scored as many as league goals as Burnley's entire squad put together, but his side have lost all three games on the road and haven't kept a clean sheet anywhere since the beginning of April.
    VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Burnley manager Sean Dyche on Norwich: "We saw how well they acquitted themselves against Man City, and they are taking it on, playing with a lot of freedom.

"That's what we do in theory, roll up and take it on at this level, but it's not always that easy or practical.

"But we've experienced it in the past at this level, the story of a season isn't the first five games, the challenge is to maintain those standards over the full season. That's the real test."

Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke on injuries: "We had nine players out for Man City and not a lot has changed. Patrick Roberts is back. Grant Hanley had a normal week. He is fully fit. He would be fit to start. He has been back in team training for 10 days."
    LAWRO'S PREDICTION

The Clarets might not be great in terms of creativity but they give everything for their manager, Sean Dyche, and I can see them making life very difficult for the Canaries.

It's not all bad news for Norwich, though. I have gone for them to draw a blank - so that normally means Teemu Pukki will score.

    Prediction: 2-0

Lawro's full predictions v former Wales rugby union captain Sam Warburton
Norwich's Teemu Pukki scores against Manchester City
    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

This is their inaugural Premier League meeting and first in the top flight since 1976.
The last time they met was in the third round of the FA Cup in January 2012 - Norwich won 4-1 at Carrow Road.
Burnley have only lost one of their 17 home meetings with Norwich, a 5-3 defeat in April 2004.

    Burnley

The Clarets have won just once in their past nine league matches.
They have attempted 1462 passes this season, the fewest in the top flight. They also have the lowest pass completion rate of 61%.
Burnley have hit the woodwork three times this season, the joint most in the Premier League along with Liverpool and Norwich.
Sean Dyche has used just 15 players so far this season in five league matches, three fewer than any other Premier League team.
Chris Wood has been caught offside nine times this season, more than any other top-flight player.

    Norwich City

Norwich City have lost 15 and won just two of their last 17 away games in the top flight.
They could lose each of their opening three away matches of a top-flight season for the first time since 1990.
The Canaries have conceded 12 goals this season, the most by any Premier League side.
Teemu Pukki has been directly involved in eight goals in his first five Premier League appearances, scoring six and setting up two.
The Finnish striker has scored 16 goals in his last 16 games for club and country.
Emiliano Buendia is the first midfielder to assist four goals in his first five Premier League appearances since Eden Hazard in 2012.

    BBC:

    TEAM NEWS

Central defender Ben Godfrey is available for Norwich despite being substituted last weekend because of soreness after recent hernia surgery.

The Canaries remain without Timm Klose, Mario Vrancic, Ralf Fahrmann, Grant Hanley and Christoph Zimmermann.

Manchester United's likely absentees include Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic, Diogo Dalot and Eric Bailly.

Axel Tuanzebe is nursing a hip problem, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Anthony Martial have returned in the last week.

    VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke: "We always play to win. There were many positives against Bournemouth, including the first clean sheet and first point on the road. It's good for the confidence.

"We created a magic night against Man City. We can't take it as a given to repeat that on a weekly basis but we are trying to be outstanding with our performances. The atmosphere has to be like a cup game, a do or die game."

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: "When I watched Norwich's first game against Liverpool, I saw a team with a lot of courage.

"It's given them some great results as they beat Newcastle and Manchester City with a clear philosophy on how they want to play.

"I hope we're going to stop them because it's always going to be difficult down at Carrow Road but we're ready for it now. We've got some players back."

    LAWRO'S PREDICTION

I have not tipped Norwich to get a victory so far this season, but they are going to have to wait at least another week for that to happen.

    Prediction: 2-2

Norwich could lose more than six of their opening 10 matches of a top-flight season for the second time, after 1987-88
The Canaries previously lost seven of their opening 10 fixtures in 1987-88
    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

Manchester United have won six of their eight Premier League away games against Norwich, losing at Carrow Road in April 2005 and November 2012.
None of the last 12 Premier League meetings have finished level, with Norwich winning three and losing nine since a 2-2 draw in December 1993.
    Norwich City

Norwich's tally of seven points is their lowest after nine league games of a season since a similar tally in 2012-13, also in the Premier League.
The Canaries have lost 20 of the past 21 Premier League matches in which they conceded first.
The four Premier League fixtures at Carrow Road this season have produced 20 goals, two more than at any other stadium prior to the latest round of fixtures.
Norwich could become the first promoted side to win a Premier League game against both Manchester clubs in the same season since Wolves and Portsmouth did so in 2003-04.
Teemu Pukki scored six goals in his first five Premier League appearances but has since failed to score or provide an assist in any of his last four.
    Manchester United

United have gone eight top-flight away games without a win for the first time since a streak of 11 between February-September 1989.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have failed to score more than once in any of these eight matches. It's their longest such run since an 11-match spell ended in May 1987.
Manchester United's tally of 10 points is their lowest after nine matches of a top-flight season since 1986-87.
They have won only four of their 17 league fixtures since Solskjaer was confirmed as permanent manager.
United could lose three top-flight games in a row against newly-promoted sides for the first time since November 1960.
They need one goal to become the first team to score 2,000 in the Premier League.
The eight points United have dropped from winning positions this season is the joint-most in the division, level with Aston Villa, prior to the latest round of matches.
